Controller

Bobby Varnau serves as the Controller for the Carpenter Health Network and has been with the Network since July 2021.

In his role, he reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and supports the CAO’s strategic vision, strategic execution, initiatives, and priorities in all facets of business operations. The Controller oversees accounting and finance and helps implement significant initiatives, providing support, and prioritizing business tactics to improve productivity. The Controller also monitors financial performance while continually seeking to identify ways to cut costs and improve performance to meet the organization’s goals.

Bobby is a native of New Orleans and has called Baton Rouge home for over 15 years. Bobby is married to Paulan S. Varnau and is the father of Reese, Ellen, and Robert J. Varnau. Bobby believes in studying, working, and playing hard.

Bobby spent over 15 years in public accounting working with privately held companies, non-profit organizations, government entities, and financial institutions as an auditor and advisor with Hannis T. Bourgeois, Rebowe & Company, and Deloitte & Touche. Bobby has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants, Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana Association of Non-Profit Organizations, and Government Finance Officers Association, and he has been a speaker at industry seminars and conferences.

Bobby has served the Baton Rouge community as treasurer and secretary of the BREC Foundation and treasurer of the O’Brien House. He is an alumnus of Louisiana State University, the LSU Flores MBA Program, and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
