BATON ROUGE, LA – May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We strive to raise awareness about mental wellbeing and the importance of prioritizing emotional, psychological and social health.

In today’s fast-paced world, stress, anxiety and depression are becoming increasingly common. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year. Stigma often prevents people from receiving the help they need. Mental Health Month serves as a reminder that it’s okay to not be okay, and that support is available.

Whether it’s taking a daily walk, talking to a trusted friend, practicing mindfulness or setting boundaries, small steps can make a big impact. Mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as physical health.

Communities, organizations and individuals are encouraged to get involved by sharing resources, participating in events, and fostering open conversations about mental health. Checking in on a loved one, attending a workshop or simply being kind to yourself can all contribute to a healthier, more compassionate world.

As we honor Mental Health Month, let’s break the silence and advocate for better access to care, understanding and support. When we work together to normalize mental health discussions, we empower people to seek help without shame.
